Kovalam began as a small fishing village before gaining attention in the 1930s, when the Maharani of Travancore built the Halcyon Castle overlooking the sea. In the 1970s, it became internationally known as part of the popular “Hippie Trail,” attracting travelers from around the world.
Today, Kovalam is famous for its three distinct crescent-shaped beaches - Lighthouse Beach, Hawah Beach, and Samudra Beach. It is also a leading center for Ayurvedic treatments, drawing visitors seeking relaxation and traditional wellness therapies.
