As Vizhinjam expands its role in international shipping, supporting infrastructure around the port is becoming equally important. The Vizhinjam Port CFS (Container Freight Station) will add a dedicated cargo handling facility at Balaramapuram, giving exporters and importers a closer location for container related processes.
Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Ltd (KSIE) is developing the facility on government owned industrial land, with commercial operations planned for February 2027. The project is expected to strengthen the logistics network serving Vizhinjam and create wider opportunities for trade and related businesses.
The facility is being developed at the Travancore Spinning Mills compound in Balaramapuram. Around five acres have been earmarked for the project, while the remaining mill property will continue to support its existing operations.
The state government has approved the development of the CFS and related logistics infrastructure through KSIE, in association with Travancore Spinning Mills and Kerala Automobiles Ltd.

A dedicated CFS closer to Vizhinjam can create a more structured route for moving cargo between the port and inland logistics facilities. It can also support the growing demand for container processing services as international transhipment activity at the port expands.
The project is part of the Kerala government's 100-day action plan and is positioned as a major public sector logistics hub. Its development is also expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen the state's wider logistics sector.
Vizhinjam's growth is extending beyond the port itself. The addition of a CFS at Balaramapuram introduces another layer of infrastructure between the seaport and the wider commercial network, while the proposed empty container yard at KAL adds another supporting component.
