Where Rivers, Sea, and Backwaters Meet

Poovar is a rare destination where the sea, river, lake, and beach come together in one landscape. According to legend, King Marthanda Varma named the place “Poovar,” meaning “river of flowers,” after seeing blossoms floating on the Neyyar River during his time in exile.

Historically, Poovar was an important trading point, especially for timber and spices. Today, it is known for its peaceful backwaters, mangroves, and secluded beaches.
